Our new Home.

So, we made it safe and sound to our new home in Texas. I have not explored San Angelo enough to form a solid opinion on the town yet, but I will make sure to check things out before too long. The drive down here was lovely and as we were driving through the Texas countryside we noticed how very similar it looks to Australia. Very pretty in a rugged and unforgiving way.

Anyway, this is our new house. For all intents and purposes we are the first family to live here. I have never had a brand new house to be responsible for. I can't wait to make it ours. I want to paint the kitchen and living room....we will see. A pale yellow for the living room and a very light grey for the kitchen. It has been years since I painted a dwelling we were living in. Technically is has less living space than the apartment in Kansas, but the kitchen is massive, and for some reason our master bathroom in enormous. The bedrooms are small, but there are more closets than rooms in this house. Do most houses have as many closets as mine does? I will have to count them. We have a really big garage and so much yard space. Such a nice change from not having any yard at all! Oh and something else the kids are wild about, the refrigerator has a water and ice dispenser. They LOVE it!

Here is a shot of the house head on. I think some big bushy ferns for the front porch will be just the thing. I would also like to put in an herb garden.

OK, now it is time for truth....does anyone else experience a sort of psychosis while they are moving? I swear I have turned into some mean stranger. I want my other happy Tia back. I guess when I have my nest all settled I will be much much better. The kids did fabulous on the trip and the cats were brilliant travelers. They spent the days in their little carriers and we would hear a meow from time to time, but other than that they were great. Now, traveling with cats does kinda narrow the sorts of overnight stays you can anticipate. But you can't have it all can you?

So I am going to leave you with one more shot of some West Texas countryside and then I am going to go out on my back porch and enjoy the evening while the heat is down a bit.
Have a lovely evening!
xo,
Tia

Love the new space, Tia! You're in transition and that can be a little challenging - once you are unpacked, have your favorite things surrounding you and homey touches like new plants you'll be back to your smiling self. Can't wait to see if there is a fun quilt shop nearby too ~

Tia, I must say your house looks lovely to me. May I say I really admire your husband, you, and your family for enduring these moves every year or so. I know you will make the best of your new home. Make it your own. And remember, your country THANKS YOU!

Hey girl, welcome to Texas! I love your house and understand what you mean by nesting. The herb garden sounds like a great idea. Your new neighbors are gonna love you when they find out the magic you are capapble of! I sure wish you had moved next door to me, lol. Take care and have fun getting the house your way, Elaine

You'll soon be unpacked and settled again Tia and feel your usual self. How exciting to not only have a large house with that much space but also new! I love the choosing of paintcolours and getting everything nice and fresh. A herb garden is a great idea! Best of luck settling in!

Tia, you will be back to normal once things are settled. I truly believe that when our homes and surroundings are settled our(women's) entire being doesn't settle well and thats when we get cranky and irritable! Our homes are an extention of ourselves, and when it's not in order, neither are we!! Congrats on such a gorgeous NEW home!!! Wooohoo!!! And PRAISE GOD for all the closets girl!! LOL!!! We have - count em- 2! And no place for storing those things you dont use everyday. Drives me INSANE!!! LOL Closets are GOOD!! :D

Congratulations on your new home! (I must say I envy that you have so many closets... I could use a few more!) As for the personality change... last time we moved I became insane... just so much to do to prepare, and all of it had to be done with little kids to take care of. Not to worry, things settled down as soon as we got in our new home, and started to unpack, and I am sure you will find that to be true as well!

Tiny bedrooms and enormous bathrooms? Maybe the builders were european and think you'll be hooking up your washer in the bathroom! NOT! That's what the garage is for. ;-) Congrats on making the move. I'm sure sunny Tia will return when the boxes are all unpacked and the pictures hung.

The house looks great! Much better than what was there way back when! Don't worry about your mood, you will perk up in no time!
Say hi to all for us.

Well, my hat is off to you. The last time I moved was 21 years ago. There were two of us and two dogs and a cat. We moved 15 miles from a one bedroom apartment. We didn't have much stuff. I can not imagine moving again. With three children we have accumulated a lot of stuff. Maybe when they start to move out we will have a little more space. We have one closet in the house and a built in storage area in the hall. Our house seems very cluttered.
