I've been caught up in my spiderweb

But now I am free! This has been one of those quilts that just take forever to make. I tried to take some shortcuts, and some worked, others didn't work quite so well. But I am all finished now.
A nice pieced binding that I hand stitched on. I attach my favorite bindings by hand. I feel it really gives a quilt that uber special touch. My opinion entirely.

I always knew I would quilt this one with big spirals in the colored parts of the quilt, but I was kinda stuck with what I was going to do in the white parts, right? Wellsir....I went over to Leah Day's blog where she is doing 365 days of different free motion quilt designs and figured I may get some inspiration from her. Low and behold I did! I quilted spiderwebs in all the white parts. Now, I want to quilt spiderwebs everywhere!

When I pulled fabric for this quilt I wanted to stick to a certain color story. I wanted lots of lavender, lime, sky blue and splashes of black. For some reason pink kept creeping in, so I let it stay. While it is pastel, the black really saves it from being too washed out. Now I am all for water color quilts. This one is one of the ones that convinced me to make mine. I even ordered some of her little girl swinging fabric and put it in my quilt.

So here it is all laid out in my grass. So pretty. I love it. I have some of the ways I made short cuts to my blocks over on Flickr. I think a picture is worth a thousand words, so go on over and see what you think if you are in the market to make one of these quilts for yourself. My way makes it a bit wonky....you may be able to tell where I diverted from marking each stitch line on each triangle, but that is ok.

Oh and here are some of my other helpers. They are out and about now that they have gotten used to Stanley McCrystal being around the house. They love binding.
So, now that I am finished with my spiderweb quilt I better get on to sewing bags and quilt bee blocks. I know I told some of you that I would send out my custom bag email a couple weeks ago, but obviously that didn't happen. Life did. So....I think I am now at the bag making part of my life again. It really has taken some time to get back in that zone! But I am there now.
Have a great rest of your weekend!
xo,
Tia

This quilt looks AMAZING! Love it! And thanks for sharing your shortcuts on Flickr - that's really helpful. I've been thinking of making one of these for a while, but seeing how tedious the construction can be caused me to reconsider. I think your foundation method is really smart/efficient and I look forward to trying it myself.

Beautiful quilt! I've been trying to figure out how to quilt my spider web quilt. Don't know if I can do the spider webs like you, but they sure do look good! I may take you up on the spiral idea, though.

I'd like to make another spiderweb, but haven't quilted the first one. They ARE timeconsuming!
