Good morning all! How are you? I am pretty good. I have decided to add some more excitement to the applique boarder, so I have taken this beastie off my quilting table and folded it up until I have time for hand applique. I don't think it is wrong to add to a quilt once it is already underway, so you guys can do that too. See, sometimes the quilts change their mind and you are powerless to hold them back. Anyway I just was proud of this guy so far and I wanted to show him off.
To begin with, I finally cut into my big fat lovely collection of Denyse Schmidt's Flea Market Fancy fabric. I bought most of it ages ago, but it has been sitting on my fabric shelf feeling better than all the other fabric. It was getting so arrogant I had to cut it up a bit to make an example of it. See...no one in my fabric collection is too good to be cut up. That will show them won't it? Do you think of your fabric as intelligent life forms? I really don't, but all the fabric does say different things when mounded with other fabric. So I am not really a crazy woman sitting in my sewing room chatting away with my fabric and flashing my polka-dot bra to young innocent waiters at restaurants.I also added a bunch of other Denyse Schmidt fabric to the quilt and some other special pieces that thought they were too precious to be actually quilted with.
So forgive my flight of thoughts, let's get back to the quilt. It is strongly inspired by a great quilt in Material Obsession 2 (by Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fielke). I loved those great big log cabin like hexagons from the first moment I saw them. I wanted the quilt to be a bit bigger than the one in the book, so it kept growing and the more I added to it the happier it seemed to be.
I really dig the quilting so far. What do you think of those triple arcs that was quilting over the tiny squares? I love them! Gwen showed me one of her little hand quilted ones that was quilted with little triple arcs and I knew I had to quilt SOMETHING with the arcs. So I did. Awesome huh?
So, I get lots of questions about how I did the little squares. It is so easy and fast I am almost embarrassed.I am going to do a series of tutorials so I will take requests...the first will be the tiny squares and the second will be Gwen Marston's no math method of making the diamonds on point boarder....anything else? You let me know in the comments and I will make it so. So, until tomorrow, or later today depending on if I need to drive my husband around somewhere I will have the little squares up.
Have a lovely Thursday!
Tia
PS, Sarah Fielke has a new book out in Australia and I want it so bad I can hardly stand it. It is named Quilts from little things and it looks AMAZING!

I love this quilt! and i was just reading material obsession 2 last night. Just bought it a few weeks ago. It's a great book. and I am also sad that Sarah's other book isn't released until August in the US and who knows for Canada.
*giggle* I'm sure you totally made the waiter's day! I love how honest you are with your fabrics. I have some gorgeous Heather Ross linen I haven't dared cut into yet.
Your Hexie quilt is sublime. It's beautiful and quirky, original and humble and so friendly and cozy looking! *sigh* Nice work lady!
That is one staggeringly beautiful quilt Tia, WOW, I am so in love!
