On Sewing ADD...

Or maybe just having too many irons in the fire? I don't know...but I have never been this scatter minded before. I am as scatter brained as the next mother of 3 but not normally where my sewing life is concerned. I basically took the week off last week. My husband was so happy...must have been the hot food on the table each evening ;o) I would like to say that during that week I got focused on what I want to concentrate on...but nope I really didn't. I am as unfocused today as I was last Tuesday. I have piles of scrap fabric everywhere and little stacks of projects all in their own places. At least it is organized chaos...nothing is mingling with the project on the other side of the room, so that is good news.

For some dumb reason I volunteered to help out with Kansas Day on Friday. I will be teaching about 200 kiddos to hand quilt. Crazy, huh? Well, I am making a bunch of these covered wagon blocks they are taking up alot of space on my table.

When I left Australia I ended up taking some of the German Bushfire Quilt Blocks with me. They were so lovely I wanted to do the assembly and quilting myself and then send them back to Australia. Well, then the plates shifted below Haiti and just apocalyptic destruction occurred. It is stunning to see the rubble. I want to go join Doctors without boarders. I want to help mend the masses. I am a combat nurse after all, so the pull is justified. But who would take care of my family? So I will stay put and finish a quilt to be donated to CraftHope for Haiti. I have 2 weeks to get it done and that is totally doable. Oh and this quilt is laid out on my design wall (the floor behind the sofa).

Sunday Morning We had a very lazy day. I made a nice little Tea Party Breakfast and then we went to the gym to play basketball. That was pretty funny. I will have to do more tea parties with the kiddos. Emma and I used to have them all the time, but we haven't for a while. Sam was really into the little pitcher of milk. He would pour himself a sip of milk at a time. Ethan got one of the fancy Shatto Milks all to himself in it's lovely little glass jug. Other than the great company at breakfast it is great to take out the fancy China. It was my Aunt Billy's and is just bone thin. The little white cups and teapot are from my mother. They are so sweet and delicate. It almost felt like my mother and Aunts were there with us.

I finished Sarah's row for our Row10 swap. She wanted reds, pinks and greens. I thought I was going to be able to do 2 rows. One a Shoo-fly and the other a log cabin, but last night I had to marry them up and just do one combination row. My daughter was so excited about this color combination. So I reserved some of the scraps for her. The rest I will be sending on along with these blocks to Sarah...she may need extra, right?

This is the project that is making me the most crazy. I wanted to make a forest quilt. But then the colors were too much the same. The green is a tiny pindot from Lecien that is so glorious in it's simplicity. The trees are made from strips of coral, pink, tea and brown and a 60 degree triangle. I LOVE a 60 degree triangle. If you don't have one you may want to invest in one. It has opened a whole new side of the quilting map for me. I want the stars at the top for sure, but do I want to add a bunch around the rest of the quilt as well....or do I want to do some appliqued vines on the sides and tiny houses at the bottom? This project is folded up and retied to the top of my radiator until an epiphany comes to me. Oddly enough, I know exactly how I am going to quilt it. I wish I could just jump ahead to that step. I DO NOT plan on keeping this quilt. I am going to list it in my shop and see if anyone else may want to keep it. At least that is my plan.

Saturday we had our first meeting of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild. What a brilliant lot of ladies! Oh my gosh! I left with so much swirling around in my mind. We are going to do some great thing, you just wait and see. Jen and Debbie came with me. Tula Pink is there, Jacquie from Tallgrass Prairie, Angela the most awesome long arm quilter I have seen, Lauren Hunt who makes these clever little cold defense pouches and designs lovely fabric, Jamie who I bought my Bernina from, and some lovely ladies who have read my crazy blog...they knew who I am and are so dear! I can't wait to get to know them all better. If you are in the area, please feel welcome to come to our next meeting.
We had the first meeting at a shop named Urban Craft. I was just stunned by all the lovely craft stuff. And most of the shop girls were so friendly. One was a little off, but maybe she was also overwhelmed by all the crafty potential that surrounded her. Jen and I went to lunch at The Cafe and it was yummo, then we explored the Green Acre market. I love a fancy grocery store. SO I left with some biscotti, 2 perfectly ripe mangoes, some Shatto milk for the boys and one of the most vile smelling cheeses on the planet. I am all for stinky cheese! I love it. But this one just stinks. It does not taste like anything. Oh well.
OK, I guess I have wasted enough time this morning, I have lots of things I need to sew on. I am going to shift focus back to bags. Maybe that will ground me a bit. I am almost finished with C. Fox, L. Stephens Hero Bags, and E. Berg's Stu diaper tote, which is going to be so awesome.
OK, Have a great day and thanks for reading my rambling!

Glad I'm not the only one that is ADD with all my different projects! At least yours are organized and separated from each other. Due to several shifts in the sewing room and then to other rooms and back to the sewing room, mine have all gotten lumped together!

Oh my, I can understand why you are having problems. My mind is tired at the thought of all you have going on right now. Good luck as it all looks awesome.
