Happy President's Day!

SO, did you all have a great Valentines day and Presidents day? We did. Tons of sewing and card making and fantastic Beef Stew...even a cherry pie. Busy busy busy. We also went to see Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief. I am so happy to see Greek gods coming back in style, there are so many great tales to revisit.

For President's day did you all dress up like your favorite president and pass new laws around the house? We didn't either....I thought about it, but decided my time would be better spent in another manner.

I am mostly finished with my Doll Quilt swap #8. This is the 6th one I have participated in. I just love these things. I am thinking of starting again from scratch and making something a bit more traditional and keeping Hector myself. Who knows what will happen?

Here is Emma up early finishing her Valentine cards for her classmates. I helped out in Ethan's class for their party. Wow! I forgotten how the schools here put on the dog with Valentines day. I think my kids expected Santa Claus to come again baring chocolate hearts. I did make them chocolate chip pancakes...and we discussed being executed for what you believe. Good times.

I have jumped on the Spoonflower fabric bandwagon. I LOVE the map print. I used a map of Heidelberg, Germany that I found in one of my photo albums. It looks awesome all unfolded. I will be using it in my spiderweb quilt. If you all want some I can get some for you.

I finished this Hero Bag for SPC Adam Rosema's mother. I have her other 2 bags almost ready, but I need to put on the straps and of course send them out...

I had a good mail day on Saturday. Some lovely cross weave cottons from Moda. I can't wait to use them and what I think may be my favorite print in the past couple months. It looks like lined paper! Cosmo Cricket made it....she is quite brilliant.
2 Great books as well. I have been reading the Alabama Studio Style book and I love it! I am a "slow Design" business! I always knew that (and those of you who I have sewn for in the past know that) but I don't think I have ever seen it written down. "
Slow Design is defined "as the process of building a product and a company on handcraft, commitment to community, and respect for the environment" That is so me! I love Natalie Channing. She is an amazing woman. The Army is my community. Hi Army! If you are not familiar with Natalie Channing she has a great blog and some of the best books ever written (in my opinion). I can't wait to make some of the dresses in this book.
I have not gotten to the Built by Wendy Dresses book yet. I am waiting until I am not quite so busy with all my other sewing for money projects.
I finished a quilted flap messenger bag. I needed to test a quilted one out before I used her son's uniform to make one. The one I carry is very plain and not quilted. I carry the most boring bags. I do not have a name for this one yet...I made it per request of SPC Rosema's mother. Maybe I should name it the Adam. I will ask her what she thinks.

I had to break free a moment and make a baby quilt with the new collection by French General named Rural Jardin. I LOVE the colors in this quilt. Oh and look and that! It is in the shop. So if you need a good baby present keep this in mind. I can add a label speedy quick and make it yours.

This is the Valentine card I made for my husband. It is a verse from "9 million bicycles" by Katie Melua. I love her singing. She makes my little sewing room nice and peaceful. So I made this for Stu. He opened it and read it for a long time. I was like "Oh he loves it!" He said thanks....then I read it again and I saw I had left an entire line out. Duh. That is what I get for trying to stitch too fast.

Finally (well really not finally) here is part of the set I am making for E. Berg. The wallet is so darn cute! Well, the whole set is great. I think this is the most expensive bag I have ever made, counting only the fabric I used. I have been collecting Japanese fabric for years and she wanted this diaper set to be specific for a baby. Well, I really don't have too much Baby fabric, so this is what we decided on. It is fantastic! Like an entire "I spy" quilt, but it is a bag.
OK, the pie is ready! I need to go check dinner.
Have a great evening!
XO,
Tia

Such a great idea the map fabric. I wonder if it is possible to change the colours somehow. Oooh the possibilities! And I just adore your doll quilt and valentine!

I love text and maps too and given that I lived near Heidelberg for four years, I'd love to buy some. I have a Spoonflower account if you've got it for sale there, or I'd order it directly from you. :-) I have no ideas of what I'd make with it, but I think that's kind of beside the point!
