Sewing Thursday - We are making tote bags!

Hey there!

Are you coming over to my house on Thursday? If you are this is what we are going to be making. Quilted Tote Bags! I know you may not be able to tell with my less than awesome photography skills but both bags are in fact quilted.

Now, if the Army bag does not seem to be your flavor, you can bring a charm back and make the big tote bag.
The will be a fee for this class. $15 will get you instruction from yours truly, a uniform leg of your choice (BDU, ACU or DCU) and the batting to make the bag.
You will need to bring:
  • about a yard of fabric for the lining of the bag and the straps.
  • name tapes/unit patches you may want on your bag
  • sewing machine and thread (I will have 2 machines available for your use if you do not want to bring one)
  • **optional- other material for the straps (twill tape, leather, nylon strapping), a magnetic closure thingy.

Now if you don't want to make the Army Bag, you can make the patch work one from a charm pack and about a yard of fabric. The yard includes the lining and straps. You will have fabric left over, but in my experience it is better to have too much than not enough. Also you may want this fabric to be a heavier weight to make the bag more substantial, like a canvas or linen. The cost of this bag is $8 for the batting.

Seats are limited, please let me know if you are going to come and sew with me on Thursday and which type uniform leg you want...oh and my little classes sometimes run long so you may want to bring a little something share for lunch. I will be making some bread. The Army bag took me longer to make since I got sidetracked with the straps and inside pocket, but the charm pack bag is very fast, about 2 hours. Email me with any questions you may have.

I hope you can make it! See ya Thursday!

Tia

Oh funny irony at the timing of your post! I WISH i could come!! I spent all day yesterday constructing two bags for my mom and MIL for mother's day - quilted bags - and came to a screeching halt when i realized i was going to have raw seams showing on the inside!? I know there's gotta be a way.. but darn if i can figure it out! grrrrr!! So would be there in a heartbeat if I were close enough! LOL!! In the meantime, i will just continue to hit my head against the wall until it comes to me! haha!! :D

these are adorable...I especially like the one with curtis on it. I love what you did to the bottom of the bag too. Very cute! I just found your blog from someone else's page and I would love to join but don't even know where you are. I looked at your profile and can't tell where you are stationed. I love your blog and your bags! Love them! I am glad I found you. Steph

I am so jealous of those able to attend. If you ever decide to do this again once you've moved & can give a bit of lead time you may find me on your doorstep. Hope you all had fun.
