My friend is an artist

Happy last day of 2010 folks! And for those of you in Australia, Happy New year! As I am trying to finish this quilt before the year ends, I have been thinking about 2010. It was a pretty good year. I am sure I will put together some mosaics of the bags and quilts and sewn things I have made over the past 12 months later.

But now I have a little funny story for you. OK, the picture up there is what I look like this morning. I got up early so I could sew a bit on my quilt before the tribe gets up. Yes I am still wearing my house coat, my hair is back in a kerchief and I can't find my hairbrush, so it is still snarled from sleep. But frankly this is kinda what I look like most of the time....well I do tend to get dressed before the kids get up, but there you go. That is not the funny story.

Last week we had our neighbors over for a little BBQ. They are great people. Sharon is my brilliant little artsy friend here in town and I am so thrilled that she lives right across the street from me. We can have art offs whenever we want, right? So we were talking about house hold chores and the demand for a really good vacuum. I have a pretty decent vacuum (for hard wood floors) but it is getting one hell of a work out in this house. The carpet is really cheap and I have as many animals as children living with me, so a good deal of pet hair is sucked up each time I turn it on. Wellsir, I was going on about how much dust and lint are created but sewing all the time. And my husband chimed in that it was actually like a million little circles of fabric flying around since each time the needle stabs down it acts like a hole punch.

Well, I guess that conversation conjured up this image for Sharon. See all the little dots of fabric flying out of my sewing machine? I am happy Sharon sees me as more fancy than I really am. She gave me great shoes and a low backed gown, heck she even did my hair for me. Much better than what I really look like. But the crazy thing is, see that quilt I am sewing on up in the painting? I am making one like it for my friend who is having her first baby. Well, I am working on it in my mind....I have not really started to work on it.

Anyway, may you all be blessed with brilliant friends, wonderful creativity and happy, healthy families for 2011.

Thanks ladies! Happy New Year to you too. Sharon is so very great. One very good thing about moving so often is that I get to keep meeting such great Military wives. I have been very lucky to have been blessed with such fine friends.
