we are in Limbo for a spell.

Hey there! How are you doing? I hope you are good. We have packed up our house, cleaned the heck out of it and are now living in TLF (Temporary Living Facility). It is a funny place full of other families in limbo. They are either just getting here and waiting for a house or trying to leave and waiting for their military member to sign out. My husband keeps referring to this apartment as a family space capsule. He has a point. There are the 5 of us humans, 1 big lab, and 2 fancy cats residing in about 150 square feet. Outside it is as hot as the surface of the sun and inside it is freezing cold with the air conditioner being totally out of our control even though there is a dial thermostat. I am pretty sure there are cameras and they are just watching us and testing us to see how we react to different stimuli....heck this entire Air Force base has been one social experiment after another. Did I tell you about the time I went to the commissary and they were playing a psyops recording over the sound system of crying hungry babies and some broken record player noise? I think I began to spontaneously lactate and I was actually searching for the hungry baby before I figured out where the noise was coming from. Let me tell you that Dan the commissary manager got a piece of my mind that day! I have many more tales but they are best saved for another time as we are not out of here yet!

All moves are different right? I think our best one was the one from Germany to the US. All of our packers were Lithuanian and the only way to communicate with them was hand signs. They were so professional...and a bit thuggish. They took over the elevator thing that was being used by our neighbors who were moving out at the same time.

I don't think this move will go down on record as one of our best. The majority of our stuff just got stacked in the truck, not wrapped or packed at all. The driver of the 18 wheeler was a man dressed entirely in a marijuana pajama outfit and white socks pulled up to his knees. I wonder what he was thinking (and where he was shopping) when he decided a short and shirt set stenciled all over with little neon dope leaves would be a professional thing to dress himself in? Just imagine a 7 foot man with a booming bass voice, socks pulled up to his knees and marijuana clothing assuring you that everything would probably be just fine. He will be pulling into Kansas City in about 12 hours, and the entire truck would be off loaded into a warehouse until they can find someone to move it into our new house. Thrilling.

After all the packing, sorting and cleaning I really wouldn't care if all our stuff drove straight into a wormhole never to be seen again. I thought I had been so good about getting rid of the rubbish 3 kids and I have accumulated over 2 years, but I am pretty sure a ton of it slipped through into the boxes.

I love to move, but I hate actually MOVING. Oh well, I got to do a fantastic studio clean up and I anticipate another one when I start setting up my sewing studio on Leavenworth. I think I am going to sell a bunch of fabric that I just don't use for either bags or quilts. It is great stuff....just nothing I will be using in the foreseeable future.

OK, my blogging will be spotty over the next few weeks. Please say hi if you see us on our journey north. We will be hard to miss....a truck, a van 3 kids 2 fluffy cats and 2 half mad adults and a hundred quilts that for some reason did not get packed. They are all in the van and back of the truck.

xo,
Tia

Been there done that, getting ready to do it again myself. I am sorry you were to nice to that dope head if you let them just put yourself in the back of that truck not wrapped. That truck would not have left my house till it was all done properly. I would also let the base know the kind of people they sent for your stuff too. Claim it all when it is broke or missing. This time when we move from Florida to Utah, I am packing everything myself, will probably even get those metal boxes delivered to the front door, or a semi truck trailer, pack it myself, and then call them to come and get it and move it across country. We have been here for 18 years so we have the "crap" for sure. I have been purging for over a year now, super purging for the past 4 months. The trash can is over flowing each week, sometimes I need to borrow the neighbors can a little bit too. I still have a ton of stuff to go through, but it will be nice to have that done already for the unpacking part. Nothing worse than trying to unpack, and having to major purge at the same time. I am trying to do it right this time. Plus I am in the middle of another house remodel, and working on my house I live it at the same time. When we move this after everything has been sent out of here, we two adults, 3 cats in the back seat of the truck, and 4 big ol labs in the back of the truck will be camping our way across country with travel trailer in tow. I am going to try and enjoy the trip, taking a whole week if I feel like it to get there. I don't want it to feel like a nightmare, or be exhausting. I want to be well rested and enjoy the journey. Best wishes to you and your family, may your trip be just as adventurous as mine will be. Billeting stinks, lived there for 6 weeks myself, without a vehicle when we first got here, spent every evening when he got home from work at the beach to unwind till it was bedtime for the kiddos. Who at the time were 2 and 4.
